Meeting location: In front of MIX Center entrance
The human sense of smell has historically been neglected. What if we upend that? By focusing on how we perceive the world through smell, this walk invites participants to explore their memories and feelings about smells they encounter around the MIX center. Participants are provided with cues to wake up their noses and asked to explore the smells of their surroundings at their own rhythm. The walk is followed by a discussion round which invites participants to reflect upon their smell experiences. Here, questions of comfort and discomfort, as well as belonging and unfamiliarity in regard to smells, will be raised. This smell walk offers the opportunity to not only become aware of one’s sense of smell but to begin to transform smell experiences of public space from an experience that might separate oneself from one’s built environment and people into an experience that invites acceptance and celebration of olfactory diversity.
